Revision History⚓︎
Revision history is the change log for an individual object in xControl. Where the Audit log records who tried to sign in, revision history records who changed what — every creation, update, deletion, and restoration of an Account, Mobile Asset, Customer, Site, or System, with the administrator and IP address responsible.
Use it to answer questions after the fact: when a System Profile assignment changed, who deactivated a Mobile Asset, or whether a missing Customer was deleted or never existed.
Note
Revision history is available to superuser accounts only. The History button is not shown to other roles. Contact Expeto Support if you need a change investigated on your network.
Opening the history for an object⚓︎
- Navigate to the details page of the object — an Account, Mobile Asset, Customer, Site, or System.
- Click History. The revision history for that object appears, newest change first.
Each object keeps its own independent trail. There is no combined, system-wide change log.
Reading a revision⚓︎
Every entry in the list describes one change:
- Timestamp: when the change was committed, to the second.
- Administrator: the account that made the change, with its initials shown alongside.
- IP: the address the change was submitted from.
- Action: what kind of change it was — see the table below.
- Changed fields: a chip for each field the change touched. A revision that altered only the
status shows a single
statuschip.
Actions⚓︎
| Action | Meaning |
|---|---|
| created | The object was created. This is the oldest entry in any trail. |
| made an update | One or more fields changed. The changed-field chips say which. |
| deleted | The object was deleted. |
| undeleted | A previously deleted object was restored. |
Important
A deletion and a restoration are separate entries, and a restored object keeps its full trail across both. Check the action on the newest entry before concluding that an object was removed — a deleted entry followed by an undeleted entry means the object is live again.
Viewing the change itself⚓︎
Click Expand Diff on any entry to see the object before and after the change, with the modified lines highlighted. The oldest entry instead offers Expand Data, which shows the object as it was first created — there is no earlier state to compare against.
Navigating a long trail⚓︎
Long-lived objects accumulate large trails, so the list is paginated with the newest changes on the first page. Use the numbered pager beneath the list to move through it; the count above the pager shows which revisions you are looking at and how many exist in total.
Expanding the oldest entry on a page still shows a diff against the change immediately before it, even though that change sits on the next page.
History for deleted objects⚓︎
The history page does not require the object to still exist. A deleted Account, Site, or System is no longer listed in the interface, but its revision history remains reachable, and the page is titled from the object's last known state rather than from a bare ID.
This is deliberate: the trail of a deleted object is usually the one you most need, because it is the only record of who deleted it and when.
